If you're a woman living in West Bengal, there's a good chance you've heard about the Annapurna Bhandar scheme — ₹3,000 every month, paid straight into your bank account. It replaced the older Lakshmir Bhandar programme in June 2026, unifying the old tiered payouts into a single flat amount. This page explains who qualifies, how to apply, how to check your status — and, importantly, how to avoid the fake registration websites that have sprung up around it. This is an independent guide, not a government site: we don't process applications or collect personal details.

Annapurna Bhandar at a glance

  • Benefit: ₹3,000 per month (₹36,000 per year), via Direct Benefit Transfer
  • Who: Eligible women aged 25–60, permanent residents of West Bengal
  • Launched: Approved May 18, 2026, by the state cabinet; effective June 1, 2026
  • Replaces: Lakshmir Bhandar (which paid ₹1,500–₹1,700/month depending on category)
  • Payment method: DBT into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts
  • Existing beneficiaries: Migrated automatically — no fresh application needed
  • Helpline: 1800-345-5505 (toll-free)

What changed from Lakshmir Bhandar

Three big shifts. First, the amount: the old scheme paid ₹1,500 per month to general-category women and ₹1,700 to SC/ST women (revised upward in February 2026 from the original ₹500/₹1,000). Annapurna Bhandar scraps the tiers entirely — every eligible woman gets a flat ₹3,000, roughly double the old payout. Second, uniformity: one amount regardless of social category, which simplifies both the messaging and the administration. Third, the name and the system: government records, portals, and the old Lakshmir Bhandar status-check pages are being transitioned to the Annapurna Bhandar branding.

The politics are worth understanding because they explain the scale. Lakshmir Bhandar, launched in August 2021, is widely credited with deepening women's financial inclusion in the state; the new scheme, covering an estimated two crore women at ₹3,000 each, is among the most ambitious state-level cash transfer programs in India.

Who is eligible

  • Woman aged 25 to 60 years
  • Permanent resident of West Bengal
  • Not an income taxpayer
  • Not a permanent government employee, and not receiving a regular government salary or pension

The state has also clarified that women who applied under the CAA process and certain categories involved in voter-related proceedings may continue receiving benefits subject to conditions. If you were already receiving Lakshmir Bhandar, you don't need to apply again — but verification drives will remove duplicate, deceased, or ineligible entries, so keep your documents in order.

How to apply

  1. Go to the official portal. Online registration for new applicants runs through the official Annapurna Yojana portal (the old Lakshmir Bhandar portal has been renamed). Type the address yourself — never follow links from forwards.
  2. Verify with Aadhaar + OTP. Enter your Aadhaar number and mobile number, verify via OTP, then enter your ration card number to auto-fetch family and residency data.
  3. Upload documents. Aadhaar card, Aadhaar-linked bank account details, and proof of residency. Missing documents are the number one reason applications stall.
  4. Wait for verification. Block Development Officers (rural) and Sub-Divisional Officers (urban) verify applications before benefits are sanctioned.
  5. Track your status on the official portal's tracking page using your mobile number, Aadhaar, application ID, or Swasthya Sathi card.

Prefer offline? Applications are also accepted at local camps and offices — the scheme runs both channels.

When the money arrives

Payments are disbursed via DBT directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts — no middlemen, no agents. Transfers typically settle in the first week of each month. Two prerequisites, both non-negotiable: your bank account must be linked to your Aadhaar, and that linkage must be seeded in the NPCI mapper (ask your bank to confirm the mapper entry specifically — account-level linking alone isn't enough). New applicants start receiving once registration and verification complete; existing Lakshmir Bhandar holders moved to the ₹3,000 amount from June 2026.

The fake-website warning

This is the most important section on this page. Fake registration websites and unofficial social media links are actively targeting applicants — professional-looking portals that harvest Aadhaar numbers, bank details, and OTPs. The rules:

  • Apply and check status only on the official government portal. Wait for official government communication about where to register.
  • Never pay anyone. Application is free. "Agents" offering faster approval are scams.
  • Never share OTPs with callers claiming to be officials.
  • Beware of sites with convincing names — scammers buy domains that look official. Type the URL yourself or use links from verified government announcements.

What ₹3,000 a month actually changes

Policy papers talk about "financial independence" in the abstract; the household math is more concrete. ₹36,000 a year covers a meaningful share of a low-income family's food budget, children's school expenses, or the kind of small health costs that otherwise become debt. Paid directly to the woman's own bank account, it also does something subtler: it gives millions of women a regular, predictable income stream in their own name — which changes bargaining power inside the household in ways no awareness campaign can. That's the real bet of the scheme: not just the rupees, but who receives them and how regularly.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lakshmir Bhandar still giving money? It was replaced by Annapurna Bhandar from June 2026. Old beneficiaries were migrated and now receive ₹3,000/month.

Do existing beneficiaries need to apply again? No — migration is automatic. But keep documents current; verification removes duplicates and ineligible entries.

What documents do I need? Aadhaar card, voter ID, bank passbook copy (account number + IFSC, Aadhaar-linked), Swasthya Sathi card details, and a recent passport-size photograph.

Why hasn't my ₹3,000 been credited? Payments release in phases after verification. Check your status on the portal, confirm your Aadhaar-bank NPCI mapping with your bank, and allow time for phased disbursement.

What was the last date to apply? Application windows are announced by the state; check the official portal for the current window rather than trusting forwarded messages.

Who do I contact for help? Helpline 1800-345-5505, support line 033-23341563, or email [email protected].

Annapurna Bhandar is simple at its core: ₹3,000 a month, straight to your account, for eligible women across West Bengal. The complexity is all in the edges — the migration, the verification, and the scammers circling both. Use the official portal, keep your bank mapping current, and don't pay anyone for what the government gives free.

I was on Lakshmir Bhandar and the automatic migration to Annapurna Bhandar in June worked smoothly — the ₹3,000 started coming to my Aadhaar-linked account without me doing anything. The eligibility list here (25-60, WB resident, no govt salary, non-taxpayer) matches what the camp officials told us.

The fake registration websites warning is the most important part. So many "Annapurna Bhandar apply online" sites collecting Aadhaar copies. The ONLY official portal is the WB social security portal — everything else is harvesting your documents.

Question: the documents list mentions Aadhaar, domicile proof, bank details. My bank account isn't Aadhaar-linked yet — will that block the DBT? Should I link it first?

Yes, link it first — DBT goes to the Aadhaar-linked account, and an unlinked account will cause failures. Visit your bank branch with Aadhaar; it usually activates within a few days. Do this before applying, not after.

The ₹3,000 monthly makes a real difference for household expenses. The scheme replacing Lakshmir Bhandar (which was less) shows the commitment. Just make sure you apply through official channels only.
